California Privacy Rights (CCPA & CalOPPA)
Last Updated: May 11, 2025
Your privacy matters. This policy explains your rights under California privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA).
Even though I’m not legally required to comply with the CCPA at this time, I’ve included this section to be transparent about how your data is handled—no matter where you live.
California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)
In compliance with CalOPPA, here’s what you can expect when you visit my website:
- What I collect: I collect personal information you voluntarily provide—like your name, email address, or business details—when you fill out a form, subscribe to emails, or purchase a service. I also collect indirect information such as IP addresses, browser type, and device data using cookies and analytics tools.
- How I collect it: Your information is collected directly through site forms and automatically via technologies like cookies. I use Google Analytics 4 throughout my website to understand how visitors interact with the content and to improve your overall experience.
- How it’s used: I use the information collected to provide services, respond to inquiries, deliver content, process transactions, improve website performance, and send marketing communications you’ve opted into.
- Who I share it with: I share limited personal information with trusted third-party service providers to help operate and support my business. These include tools for:
- Email marketing (e.g., Flodesk)
- Payment processing (e.g., Stripe or PayPal)
- Scheduling (e.g., Calendly)
- Analytics (e.g., Google Analytics 4)
These third parties only access your data as needed to perform their specific tasks and never for resale or unrelated advertising.
- How to access or update your info: You can email me anytime at hello@thecopysloth.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data.
- How I respond to “Do Not Track” signals: Like most websites, I currently do not respond to “Do Not Track” (DNT) browser settings.
- How you’ll be notified of changes: Any changes to this California resident-only policy will be posted right here. I recommend checking back periodically to stay informed.
- Where this policy lives: You can find a permanent link to this Privacy Policy in the footer of every page on my website.
- How cookies are used: Cookies are used to remember user preferences, analyze traffic, and improve website performance. You can disable cookies via your browser settings.
- How long your data is kept: I retain your personal information only as long as needed to fulfill the purposes outlined above, unless a longer retention period is required by law (such as for financial or legal recordkeeping).
- Summary of data categories collected:
- Personal identifiers (e.g., name, email address)
- Commercial information (e.g., purchase history)
- Internet activity (e.g., browsing behavior, IP address)
- Device information (e.g., browser type, operating system)
California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
While I don’t meet the criteria for mandatory CCPA compliance, I believe in transparency and respecting your privacy rights.
If you’re a California resident, you may have the right to:
- Understand what types of personal information I collect (e.g., names, emails, or payment or device info) and how I use it to operate my business—such as responding to inquiries, processing payments, or sending email updates you’ve signed up for.
- Request a summary of the personal information I’ve collected and stored about you, based on what I can reasonably access or identify (like emails you’ve submitted or purchases you’ve made).
- Ask me to delete any personal information I’ve collected from you, as long as it’s not something I’m legally required to retain (like tax records tied to purchases). I’ll let you know what can be deleted and confirm once it’s done.
- Opt out of having your information shared with third-party service providers beyond what’s necessary to run my business (like email or payment tools). I never sell your information—but you can always ask me to limit what’s shared (if anything).
To make any of these requests, just send me an email at hello@thecopysloth.com. I’ll do my best to respond quickly and respectfully.
Final Notes
Your trust matters to me. That’s why I’m committed to keeping this page clear, accurate, and up to date. If you have any questions about how your data is handled—or if you want to exercise your privacy rights—you’re always welcome to reach out.
